Conservation

Protecting South Africa's waters is not optional — it is the only way we keep fishing. Here is how AnglerHive and our community are doing our part.

Why Conservation Matters

South Africa is a water-scarce country. Our freshwater ecosystems face serious threats from pollution, habitat destruction, invasive species, and overfishing. Without active conservation, the spots we love today will not be here for the next generation of anglers.

The good news? Anglers are uniquely positioned to lead the charge. We are on the water more than anyone else. We see changes first. And when anglers speak up, people listen.

AnglerHive's mission: We believe that every catch logged, every spot shared, and every conversation had on our platform should contribute to healthier waters — not just bigger bags.

The State of SA Freshwater

40% of SA river ecosystems are critically endangered
98% of native fish species are found nowhere else on Earth
60+ invasive fish species now threaten native populations

These numbers come from the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) and the National Freshwater Ecosystem Priority Areas (NFEPA) project. The data is clear: our freshwater ecosystems are under pressure, and action is needed now.

What AnglerHive Is Doing

We are building conservation into the core of AnglerHive, not as an afterthought:

What You Can Do

Every angler can make a difference. Here are practical steps you can take today:

The AnglerHive Conservation Pledge

Join the Movement

When you sign up for AnglerHive, you are not just joining a fishing app. You are joining a community that cares about the future of our waters.

  • I will respect size and bag limits
  • I will handle fish with care and minimise harm
  • I will report invasive species and pollution
  • I will clean my gear between fishing trips
  • I will leave every spot better than I found it
